Everton have confirmed that manager Roberto Martinez has been sacked after a disastrous season at Goodison Park.
The Toffees began the campaign dreaming of a top four finish but have ended the season languishing in mid-table. After a reasonable start to 2015/16 Everton have been in steady decline with an alarming sense of apathy creeping into the squad in recent months.
The form of players such as John Stones - who was close to a £40million move to Chelsea last summer - has been particularly worrying for the Everton board, who were left with little choice but to part ways with Martinez.
The former Wigan boss repeatedly called for his tenure to be judged over his three seasons at the club, rather than just this last one, but even looking at the whole picture few fans will say he deserved to stay.
Under-21s coach David Unsworth could take charge for the final match of the season.
