UEFA Euro 2016: Group D [2pm] Turkey VS Croatia

Its matchday 3 and game number 5 of the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament taking place in France , as Group D comes alive with the first match-up of the group.

TEAM NEWS

Turkey

  • Highly rated midfielder Emre Mor, who recently secured a big money switch to Borussia Dortmund, is pushing for a start, but Fatih Terim may utilise the teenager from the bench.
  • Burak Yilmaz, despite a lack of first team action due to injury, looks set to be given the nod to lead the attack for Turkey, though Besiktas' Cenk Tosun is an option for Terim.
  • All in all, Turkey are not expected to name any surprise selections against Croatia.
Croatia
  • Marcelo Brozovic is hoping to start against Turkey, but finds himself behind Milan Badelj, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic in the Croatia pecking order.
  • Promising youngster Marko Pjaca started the 10-0 thumping of San Marino, but looks set to drop to the bench in place of Mateo Kovacic.
PREDICTION

Turkey progressed to Euro 2016 by the skin of their teeth, but now have the change to make a big impact in France. They come into the tournament in good form having won four of their last five fixtures, losing only to England in that run.

However, the meeting with Croatia will be tough to say the least. Ante Cacic has a very talented squad of players to choose from at Euro 2016 and have not lost in seven, winning six, including a morale boosting 10-0 thumping of San Marino.

This is an enticing encounter to kick off Group D. Croatia have lost only one of their last four meetings with Turkey, and that was on penalties, and should secure a narrow win.

FINAL VERDICT

So far in the tournament, all matches played have ended in an under3.5 goals. As a result, I tip that to continue.

TIP = Turkey 0-2 Croatia
