Good Evening Everyone..
As we've been communicating before now, our topic for today is all encompassing.. It's a topic that crosses across everyone, man, woman, effeminate or otherwise... "BENEFITS OF EXERCISE"!
Of course there's no human being that does not know, or that hasn't heard of the term "exercise";
What is Exercise?
Exercise is any bodily activity that maintains or enhances an individual’s physical/mental fitness. It describes activities that are beyond our daily routine of sitting, standing and walking. Good exercise keeps us strong and healthy and prevents aging and sudden deaths.
Regular exercise is needed to control weight, combat health conditions and diseases, improve our mood and boost energy. It also helps to reduce stress. Exercise promotes better sleep, puts the spark back into our sex life and can be fun. If you want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer, then look no further than exercise.
Trekking as a way of exercising can be subjective. It depends on many things. It can be a form of stress, and can also be a form of exercise, depending on the mindset. We may come back to this though.
Today, we’ll be examining the health benefits of regular exercise and physical activity which are hard to ignore, and the benefits of exercise are yours for the taking, regardless of your age, sex or physical ability.
Before we go on, it is paramount that we examine some terminologies in exercise:
AEROBICS involves rhythmic and repetitive physical activities. That is, those exercises that require you to do the same thing over and over and again. Examples of such include walking, jogging and swimming. This kind of exercise is good for your cardiovascular fitness. From this, it simply means that when you're walking, you're engaging in an aerobic kind of exercise. Aerobic exercise burns fat, improves mood, strengthens the heart and lungs and reduces your risk of diabetes.
FLEXIBILITY exercise is performed to enhance movement of the muscles and joints. It involves stretching and bending, and can be used as a warm-up session. Flexibility exercise helps stretch muscles, protects against injuries & allows the maximum range of motion for joints. This is why we see most sports men engage in these stretchings before they begin a game.
ANAEROBIC exercise is done to build muscles, enhance strength and endurance. It involves weight lifting, pushups and sit ups.
So, any exercise that aims at building any part of our bodies is part of an anaerobic exercise. They are kind of exercises that help to build strength of muscles, bones and surrounding soft tissues; burns fat; and may also lower cholesterol.
These are basically the little things you all need to know about exercise.
Now you are ready for exercise. How do you get started?
You're interested in starting up an exercise program. How do you go about it?
GETTING STARTED
Set an exercise goal putting into consideration the following:
*Age
*Body weight
*Health conditions
These are very important. We have heard of some people dying while exercising. Most usually occur when the health conditions were not top-notch during the exercise. So, incorporate this exercise goal into your daily and weekly schedule, make the goal achievable (set realistic goals), start small and increase gradually. And as you embark on this program, please ensure you also don’t compromise your safety. SAFETY FIRST!
EXERCISE SAFETY TIPS
• Start off at a moderate pace.
• Hydrate your body (with water and not soft drinks, malt or beer).
• Warm up and stretch your muscles before each work out.
• Wear proper work out clothing, foot wears and other items like a helmet if cycling.
• Rest and relax after each work out.
• Do not push yourself if injured.
• See your doctor for medical evaluation (Extremely important).
