Serie B Player Becomes 1st to Receive Symbolic Green Card for Fair Play

Now that's a record. A green card now in football?

It was a historic week for Italian football, with the first green card for fair play awarded to a player in Serie B.
Vicenza’s Cristian Galano received the honour when he assisted the referee by admitting his errant shot had gone out of play for a goal kick during a 4-1 defeat to Virtus Entella.
The symbolic scheme was introduced this season, with the player who accumulates the most green cards receiving an award at the end of the campaign.
A league spokesman said, per Goal: “We think that football needs positive messages. This sport is too often embroiled in controversy that drives people away from the stadiums.”
